PhD Program in Nutrition and Dietetics

Establishment
Nutrition and Dietetics Doctorate Program affiliated to Istanbul Health and Technology University Graduate Education Institute has started teaching as of 2021-2022 academic year.

Admission and Registration Requirements

Student admission to the proposed program will be based on the Graduate Education and Examination Regulations.

Accordingly; In order to apply for doctoral programs, candidates must have a Master's degree with thesis in Nutrition and Dietetics, (Candidates who apply to the program on the condition of having a Bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics can be admitted to the program provided that they have a different master's degree with a thesis and take the scientific preparation courses to be specified by the head of the department) In the numerical score type of the Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES), master's graduates must have at least 55 standard points, and the undergraduate graduation grade point average must be at least 2.60 out of 4. 00 or an equivalent score of at least 2.60 out of 4.00. GRE or GMAT exams accepted by the University Senate, and at least 55 points from the Interuniversity Board Foreign Language Examination (ÜDS), Public Personnel Foreign Language Proficiency Level Examination (KPDS) and YÖKDİL, or at least 55% of the full score of one of the international foreign language exams "Test of English as a Foreign Language" (TOEFL) or equivalent exams accepted as equivalent to these exams by YÖK.

Candidates' Success Grade
a) For those with a bachelor's degree, 50% of the ALES score, 25% of the undergraduate diploma grade, 10% of the foreign language score and 15% of the entrance exam are calculated.
b) Those who have a master's degree, 50% of ALES score, 15% of undergraduate diploma grade, 10% of master's diploma grade, 10% of foreign language score and 10% of the entrance exam. It is calculated by taking 15%. Success ranking is done from the highest score to the lowest score. The lists of students accepted to doctoral programs within the announced quota are announced by the Graduate School Directorate.

Rules on the Recognition of Prior Learning
Students enrolled in the Nutrition and Dietetics PhD program of another university can apply for transfer to the program. The courses taken by the student while enrolled in a graduate program of another university are determined by the recommendation of the advisor and the relevant Department Board and the approval of the Graduate School Administrative Board.

Purpose of the Program
The aim of the Nutrition and Dietetics Doctorate Program is to train doctors of science who will shape the future of nutrition and dietetics.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates
• Treatment institutions (private and public hospitals, polyclinics, health centers, dialysis units)
• Mass nutrition systems and service areas (food factories, hotel food and beverage departments, all private and public organizations where mass nutrition is done)
• Institutions providing public health services (maternal and child health centers, health centers, child and elderly care centers, sports schools)
• Food industry
•Faculty member at universities
• R&D centers

Exams, Measurement and Evaluation
Assessment and evaluation is done through written exams, term/project assignments and practical work. Article and seminar presentations are used for assessment and evaluation purposes. Success grade is at least 80 out of 100 points.

Graduation Requirements
To successfully complete the courses taken during the program and the minimum credits required for doctoral graduation, to successfully complete the required applications, to successfully defend the prepared doctoral thesis in front of the academic jury and to provide a grade point average of at least 3.00. Having at least one published or accepted for publication in journals within the scope of international field indexes or in journals scanned by the National Academic Network and Information Center (ULAKBIM), together with the thesis advisor or alone, related to the thesis subject, is required as a publication requirement for graduation.

In case of foreign university graduation, the recognition certificate to be obtained from the Council of Higher Education, equivalency certificate for foreign students, certified copy for Turkish students and notarized Turkish translation of the undergraduate diploma and transcript
6. Original or notarized copy of the undergraduate transcript (those who apply to the PhD program with a bachelor's degree must have an undergraduate GPA of at least 3 out of 4).
7. YDS, KPDS, ÜDS, YÖKDİL- TOEFL (validity period is two years) language certificates
8. For foreign students, TÖMER C1Intermediate 4 level Turkish certificate and diploma equivalency certificate
9. ALES result document (a document that they have not exceeded 5 years and have at least 80 standard points from the score type they applied for)
10. At least two letters of reference
11. Letter of intention
